Calling all independent designers, makers, artists and contemporary craftsmen

2020 has been the year that created the right context for long due perspective shifts to become inevitable. As the whole world stood still and we became unable to travel and cross borders as we used to, we have come to see that there are no borders when it comes to facing common challenges and that we are more interconnected than we had ever admitted before.

This has been no ordinary year, and it has affected everyone, at different levels. The systems that we have created and maintained for too long now proved themselves obsolete in times when the unpredictable became the only certainty. The world has – hopefully – finally understood that the most important added value of the things that we produce should not reside in unjustified high prices for underpaid mass production, but in creativity, skill and craftsmanship. The creative industries have been – and still are – going through months of uncertainty and with all the events being cancelled and the shops closed, we find ourselves in the unusual situation where we are far away from our public, but also from each other.

“Keep the Change” is a pilot project that aims to bring together a community of independent designers, makers, artists and contemporary craftsmen willing to reach out to each other, exchange ideas and trade their creations for other creations. Consider it like a fair, but with no money involved. There is no participation fee, but you are invited to donate one item of your own choice (apart from the items you wish to trade). This edition will take place online (obviously), as a Facebook event, but the intention is to set the basis for a broader artistic community that will, eventually, have the chance to meet live.

Please send your application to [email protected] with the following:

  • Photos of maximum 5 of your works that you want to participate with. The images should be in good quality, web resolution (72 dpi), jpg format. All photos should contain the name of the artist/ designer/ brand (e.g. Name_Surname_01.jpg)
  • An image of yourself in good quality, specifying the author credits.
  • A word document containing:
  • Your name and, if the case, your brand name.
  • A short text presentation of your work/ brand/ artistic vision.
  • Your résumé.
  • Your email address, website, social media links (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • List of items containing a short description of each submitted object, as well as the credits for the images.

All photos will be posted on social media channels, therefore you are encouraged to be as creative as possible.

  • Deadline for receiving the applications: January 6th 2021, 10 PM CET.
  • January 7th – 14th: all the profiles will be published.
  • January 16th– 25th: you are invited to ‘bid’ on the pieces you are interested in (more detailed instructions to follow)

You are most kindly invited to join in. Our only currency is creativity, you may keep the change.
